Converting to Commodity

This is an ongoing series of oil paintings about the artist’s personal journey into the art market.

The works represent and reflect on:
1. the commodification of ideas: the hammering to make artists pursue a singular subject, style, and/or method.
2. the development of brand: simplifying the artist into a singular packaged concept, and
3. the illusion of prestige: keeping people at a far enough distance to beguile them into believing fictitious representations of artists and their methods.

These works have been made by painting the body and then painting the result onto a canvas.
